Antes explanation

Ante is an equal bet made by all players before the hand starts. It's an incentive not to fold because the player who does loses that bet. As a result, more players stay in the game, which increases the pot size and makes the game more interesting.

Ante is the most common bet in Razz and Stud poker but not popular in blind games. Some blind tournament formats use antes to prevent tight play.
